Remotely piloted aircraft (RPAs) have been established as important tools for image collection in technical and scientific projects across various fields. These devices, by enabling the acquisition of high spatial and temporal resolution images, contribute to the development of land-use planning studies, such as the Municipal Risk Reduction Plan (PMRR). This instrument, adopted in Brazilian territory, utilizes oblique images captured by RPAs to support risk cartography. However, the national guide for PMRR development provides only initial recommendations regarding the use of RPAs, highlighting the need for further methodological refinement. This study aims to present and discuss procedures for using RPAs in support of risk cartography, taking as a case study the PMRRs under development in the municipalities of Colombo and Paranaguá (southern Brazil). The study outlines and discusses a methodological framework that involves interconnected phases and steps, covering pre-fieldwork, fieldwork, and post-fieldwork stages. In addition to confirming the efficiency of RPAs in constructing municipal risk cartography, this study also highlights operational challenges encountered, solutions adopted, and proposed good practices, providing a methodological foundation for the use of RPAs in PMRR development.
